How much does a licence cost?

It depends very much on what the sound recordings (eg. CDs, tapes, records, etc) are being used for. Our licence fee system enables us to customise the licence to reflect your particular circumstances. We have a large number of tariffs (rates and conditions) to determine the cost of a licence.

How is my licence fee determined?

From the information you give us about how you are using music, we will work out which of our tariffs (rates and conditions) are relevant to you. This means that your licence is customised to your particular circumstances so that you only pay for as much or as little music as you use.

As with all licensing situations, you need to obtain the appropriate licence before the activity takes place to ensure that you are legally covered. It is easy to apply for a licence and your licence can be issued quickly once you have paid the licence fee.

Can I pay in instalments?

By its very nature, a licence authorises a future event and needs to be in place before our members' sound recordings (eg. CD's, tapes, records, etc.) can be played in public. It is, therefore, a condition of PPL's licence that fees must be paid annually and in advance.

What should I do if my circumstances change after I have been licensed?

You should contact our licensing team to let them know what the changes are, for example if you are using music for more or less events or just in a different way, and they will amend your details as necessary.

Why do I have to pay past fees?

At the moment, we can only receive payments by cheque. We are considering Cards and other payment methods for the future.
